How did you both meet?

We were on the same floor in our dorm building Sophomore year of college. My roommate introduced us because she knew him from classes. We were friends for months before we got together because when we met, we were both seeing other people!

How did your husband propose?

He proposed on our 6th anniversary in our apartment. We went to Winter Park for a date night, and I suspected he might propose, but by the end of the night, he hadn’t, and my guard was down. We got back to my apartment and my sister, and his brother were there. I thought he had been acting so secretive because the surprise was my sister coming to visit. He said he had to wait until we were done catching up to propose. It took a while because I wouldn’t stop talking to her! He said he knew I wouldn’t have liked a public proposal with strangers watching, so he decided to do it at home with the people closest to us there to share in the moment.

What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc.)

Purple is my favorite color, so that was the main inspiration for our theme. We wanted more nature vibes, and originally wanted our reception to also be outside, but the weather patterns made that a risky choice. As far as the feel of the day, we wanted it to feel fun, light, and happy. We weren’t worried about everything being or looking perfect as much as we wanted things to be a natural reflection of us and our relationship.

What was your favorite design element of your wedding?

The flowers were amazing. I was so in love with our floral arrangements.

Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them?

We had purple lighting on the walls in the ballroom for our reception, and I really loved it. We gave out purple macarons as favors which was a suggestion of the pastry chef who made our cake. I also wore a sparkly, iridescent purple & blue prom dress instead of my white wedding dress to the reception, and I loved that dress so much. I wanted a white dress to have the traditional wedding pictures and ceremony, but that sparky blue and purple dress was the one I really loved.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

The moment our officiant said we were husband and wife, I burst into tears. On the walk away from the ceremony, John said “really? That’s the part that made you cry?” and I said, “we’ve been waiting for this for so long that hearing that we’re husband and wife, just hit me.” That wave of emotion was the most memorable moment of the day.

Please describe your cake (if any):

Our cake was vanilla with orange blossom-infused peaches and grand Marnier cream. We thought we wanted a cannoli cake before we tasted that one and chose it instead. It was white with four tiers and flowers to match the ones in my bouquet.

Any advice for those planning their wedding now?

It’s far less important that everything be perfect and look perfect. It’s more important that your wedding be a true reflection of your love and that you enjoy it.

What was your biggest surprise on your wedding day?

It rained right before our ceremony, which was outside. We weren’t sure if we would be able to have it outside, but the rain stopped right before the ceremony.

What one moment will last with you both forever?

Seeing the ballroom for the first time, all decorated for our reception. We were amazed. It was a major “wow” moment for both of us.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?

“How Long Will I Love You” by Ellie Goulding

What song played for your first dance?

A cover of “You’re Still the One” performed by Jason Chen.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Planning for the next phase of our lives together and preparing for a family of our own.

What did you like the most about working with KV Photography?

Ed & Val organized and coordinated our pictures so well and got the kind of candid photos that really captured the feel of the day. They were so nice to work with.
