How did you both meet?

Tristan went out on the boat with his friends to Picnic Island and he saw me for the first time in a pink bikini hanging out with my friends. He asked his friends who I was, and they said, ‘oh that’s Laura but she has a boyfriend.’ He looked at them and said, ‘I’m going to marry her one day.’ They laughed at him but now, ten years later, we get to laugh at them as husband and wife.

How did your husband propose?

We were going out to dinner with our best friends, or so I thought. Tristan tried to get me to go get my nails done, something I wanted before I was proposed to, but I refused because of the weather. He also wanted me to wear one of the dresses I wanted to wear when he proposed and again, I refused, clueless of what was going on. We were running late to meet our friends, so I did my make up in the car. I thought it was strange that Tristan parked down the street from the restaurant, especially with the bad weather. It didn’t hit me that something was going on until we walked the opposite way of the restaurant in the pouring rain. We were soaking wet, under a beautiful pavilion in the park. As I looked for our friends, Tristan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc.)

We wanted a very romantic and timeless feel to our wedding. I loved the simplicity and beauty of all white florals. My mom, who passed away several years ago, loved flowers and gardening so it was really important to me to have lots of flowers.

What was your favorite design element of your wedding?

It’s so hard to choose just one favorite! We absolutely loved the chandeliers and lighting for our reception. Simply Lighting went above and beyond all our expectations.

Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them?

Our champagne shelf escort cards were one of our favorite details, built by Tristan. The sparkler boxes provided by our DJ were amazing. We kept them a secret from our guests, so it was amazing to see their reactions to them. All our florals. My bouquet of peonies was amazing. Our centerpieces were perfect as well. I knew I didn’t want tall centerpieces, so I went with tons of low ones, and I loved them. Our vintage Rolls Royce getaway car was Tristan’s favorite detail. We also loved our sparkler exit. It’s something you see in a lot of weddings but it’s so fun and beautiful. It’s so hard to just choose a few! After 3 years of wedding planning, we really loved every detail of our wedding.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

Our first look. It was something we debated doing and I’m so happy we did. Seeing each other for the first time that day was so emotional and special. I’m happy we saved that moment for ourselves. It helped us to get rid of a lot of nerves and relax.

Please describe your cake (if any):

Le Petit Sweet really delivered everything we wanted. We chose two flavors, traditional white wedding cake with champagne & strawberry flavors. To go along with out all white décor, we went with an all-white buttercream with gold leaf accents on the bottom tier. The cake was dressed in white sugar flowers, including orchids as another small tribute to my mom and her favorite flower.

Any advice for those planning their wedding now?

Hire a wedding planner. They will think of things you would have never thought of and handle any issue that arises. Do your research and choose vendors that you love. By the end of our wedding, we felt like all our vendors were part of our family. The best vendors will show up for you in ways you couldn’t even imagine. When you start planning, decide what’s important to both of you and focus on those things. Always remember that this is about you and your fiancé, no one else, so choose what’s right for you and have fun with it.

What was your biggest surprise on your wedding day?

How fast the day went by! I know everyone says that it goes by in the blink of an eye, but I’m not sure I really believed it. At the end of the night, both of us said we wished we could have just one more hour. If we could relive our wedding day every day we would.

What one moment will last with you both forever?

Tristan says the first look, and you’ll see why when you see it. For me it was our private last dance. Having this moment alone at the end of the night was so special to me. I think it all set in that after having to postpone our wedding due to COVID and three years of planning, we finally did it.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

I think we’re excited to just get to spend our lives together and make so many more memories. And now that the world is getting back to a new normal, we’re excited to travel together.

What did you like the most about working with KV Photography?

Everything! Since we had to postpone our wedding a full year, we got to spend a lot of time with them. Ed and Val are so passionate about their work and the couples they work with. They care so much about every wedding they shoot, and it shows. Their creativity is incredible and they don’t do a lot of typical posed wedding photos which we loved. They have a way of capturing every emotion and it’s amazing. We really can’t say enough good things about KV Photography.
